Bluestone Mortgages Mortgage Underwriter


To deliver excellence in customer service and shareholder value, making decisions in line with the Company’s responsible lending and underwriting policies.

Core Responsibilities:

To process and underwrite mortgage applications in accordance with the Company’s policies.

  • Observe regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Demonstrate adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Deliver excellent customer service through decision making, attention to detail, problem solving and communication.

Overview of Key Tasks

  • Approve mortgages in accordance with Board authorities.
  • Authorise releases and transfers of security/equity in accordance with Board authorities.
  • Support development of mortgage intermediaries/sales channels in conjunction with BDMs to improve the quality of business submitted.
  • Achieve agreed service levels and recognised best practice in respect of mortgage underwriting.
  • Demonstrate compliance with the Company’s policy and procedures including liaison with the Risk and Compliance Function and Internal and External Auditors.
  • Operate in accordance with the regulatory requirements as applied by the Company’s responsible lending and underwriting policies.
  • Comply with the provisions of the Money Laundering Regulations 2007 (and any successors thereafter) and the Company’s Financial Crime policies and procedures.
  • Maintain adequate records in accordance with regulatory requirements for such matters as affordability calculations, KFIs, underwriting records questionnaires etc.
  • Apply the Company’s systems and controls to meet the requirements of regulatory compliance in all areas including financial crime, human resources, data protection, finances and conduct of business.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all aspects of relevant company law and applicable regulations.
  • Participate in training and continuing professional development (CPD).

We're looking for a C# Developer, who really knows how to code! Working on various greenfield projects and bespoke apps, there is a strong emphasis on delivering the highest quality code, and solving both technical and business challenges. We don’t like having bugs, so take great pride in writing principled code of the highest quality while solving challenging technical and business problems.

We try to keep up to date with the latest technologies and are comfortable making contributions back to open source libraries where we have made them better. Architecting frictionless processes, using the compiler to catch errors early (hence TypeScript) and other tools to do the work for us such as CI and automated deployment to assist productivity allows us to spend as much time as possible having fun coding!

Bluestone Mortgages Junior Business Analyst


The UK Mortgages team are working on a range of projects which will deliver significant value to
our business. We’re looking for an individual who will assist our existing team with the
completion of these and future initiatives. This is an opportunity for the right person to develop
front to back knowledge of our lending business, gain skills in a number of different areas and
become a valued member of our team.

Primary Objectives:

● Work closely with business heads to understand requirements for operational processes
that are crucial to Bluestone’s day-to-day operations and expansion.
● Undertake gap analysis against ‘current’ and ‘go to’ processes.
● Define, design and document changes to operational processes for both IT (in the form
of technical specifications) and frontline staff (in the form of user guides).
● Assist with User Acceptance Testing of IT change; develop test plans, co-ordinate and
undertake end user tests.
● Support the research of new product offerings.
● Develop reporting suites that can be used by both internal stakeholders and external
● Own issues from identification to resolution.
● Projects; perform a key role in helping to deliver our business objectives.
● Assist in implementing a business-wide change management process.
● Help foster a culture of continuous improvement within our organisation by engaging

Specific Skill or Knowledge required:

Bluestone Mortgages Mortgage Servicing Specialist


Manage complex primary servicing activity and complex special servicing activity escalated from our Manilla servicing platform.

Work with non performing loan accounts including reviewing the provision of forbearance, litigation for recovery and asset management.

Manage daily referral activity from 3rd Party Servicer, working to ensure that there are appropriate procedures and mandates in place with the Servicer to minimise workload, whilst maintaining appropriate controls.

Produce clear and effective reports on all non performing loan accounts, including reviewing all related reports from Suppliers for accuracy and appropriateness Ensure all performing and nonperforming loan accounts are reviewed and handled in accordance with Policy, the FCA’s principles and are treated fairly.

Ensure all reporting (in accordance with the Credit Policy) is accurate and, as necessary investigate all instances of noncompliance, including recommending customer handling strategies.


  • Review, report and action referrals and non performing loan accounts
  • Oversee 3rd Party Servicer account handling and, as necessary, ensure they follow through properly on all instructions, policies and procedures
  • Inbound and Outbound customer call handling, including servicing and arrears management activity - Handle complex primary servicing requirements ensuring customers are treated fairly
  • Handle litigation cases to ensure fair customer treatment and appropriate court outcomes
  • Review accuracy of and, where necessary, preparation of all credit management reporting and approvals
  • Compliance with Credit Policy
  • Accurate credit risk (including security) evaluations, including the appropriate use of receivers, solicitors, counsel, surveyors, debt management specialists, and field agents
  • Provision of coaching and guidance to third parties, as necessary to improve performance delivery
  • Manage professional negligence claims
  • Report under the risks and controls framework
  • Oversee complaint handling activity
  • Regular liaison with the Manila UK servicing team
